Browser Support: Clearing a Web Browser’s Cache, Cookies, and History

General Guidelines

  1. Supported Browsers:
    • Google Chrome
    • Microsoft Edge
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • Apple Safari
    • Mobile Browsers (Chrome on Android, Safari on iOS)
  2. Key Actions:
    • Clear Cache, Cookies, and History to optimize browser performance and resolve common issues.
    • Choose All Time in time range for a complete clearing.
  3. Important Notes:
    • Clearing this data may remove saved passwords, preferences, or history you may want to keep.
    • Restart your browser after clearing data for changes to take effect.
  4. Tools Needed:
    • Access to browser settings or menus.
    • Properly updated browsers for consistency.

Clearing Data: Desktop Browsers

Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome and click the More button in the upper-right corner.
  2. Navigate to More tools in the top right corner > Clear browsing data.
  3. In the Time range field, select All time.
  4. Check the following:
    • Browsing history
    • Cookies and other site data
    • Cached images and files
  5. Click Clear data.
  6. After all is done, click the X button on Chrome and re-open.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the More button with the three horizontal dots “…” in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select History, then click More in the History menu.
  3. Open Clear browsing data.
  4. In the Time range field, select All time.
  5. Check all the following:
    • Browsing history
    • Cookies and other site data
    • Cached images and files
  6. Click the Clear now button.
  7. Quit Edge and re-open the application after all is finished.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox and click the Menu button in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select History > Clear recent history.
  3. Set Time range to clear to Everything.
  4. Uncheck Site settings and Offline website data, if necessary.
  5. Click Clear now.
  6. Quit Firefox using the X button and re-open.

Apple Safari

  1. Open the History menu in the upper-left corner.
  2. Select Clear History....
  3. In the Clear field, choose All history.
  4. Click Clear History.
  5. Quit Safari using the red button and re-open.

Clearing Data: Mobile Browsers

Chrome on Android

  1. Open Chrome and click the More button in the upper-right corner.
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear browsing data.
  3. Set the Time range to All time.
  4. Check the following:
    • Browsing history
    • Cookies and other site data
    • Cached images and files
  5. Click Clear data.
  6. Quit Chrome and re-open.

Safari on iOS

  1. Open he Settings app on your device.
  2. Find and select Safari.
  3. Tap Clear History and Website Data.
  4. Confirm by selecting Clear History and Data.
  5. Quit Safari and re-open.

Troubleshooting

  1. If no data clears:
    • Double-check the browser version.
    • Ensure all boxes (cache, cookies, history) are selected.
  2. If issues persist:
    • Restart the browser or the device.
    • Refer to the official support pages for further assistance.
